Perfectly Imperfect Mindless Heart Painting

Sea Glass, 2019

My artistic practice is guided by the concept of mushin no shin, or mindless heart. It is in this state that I paint free from the constraints of conscious thought. Through my mindless heart approach, I tap into my creativity and emotion, resulting in artwork that is both deeply personal and satisfying for me.

Finding moments of stillness and clarity can be challenging even for the most disciplined of us. However, when I am able to enter my creative zone, I feel like time stands still. It is at this moment that I can capture the essence of my feelings through making marks and beautiful, expressive artwork like the painting you see on this page. My paintings can include marks that drip unexpectedly or marks that didn’t, at first glance, go where I wanted it. But in the end the painting with all its happenstance is perfect.

When you view my artwork I hope it sparks a sense of calm and connects you to stillness and clarity, if even for a moment.
